When a crisis happens at school, reunification is one of the most emotionally charged and operationally complex moments. Doing it well requires more than a written plan—it requires practice, coordination, and a shared understanding across disciplines.
This Friday, the NWESD 189 School Safety and Wellness Center is hosting a Comprehensive Reunification Bootcamp with Incident Command System (ICS) practice, and we invite all educators and first responders in our region to attend.
There is no cost to participate. Register here [Link to pdEnroller]

Why Reunification Practice Matters
Reunification after a critical incident is not something schools want to figure out in real time. Families are distressed, information is evolving, and multiple agencies are working simultaneously. Without prior practice, even well-intentioned plans can break down.
This bootcamp is designed to give participants the opportunity to:
- Practice a realistic reunification drill in a low-stress training environment
- Understand how reunification fits within ICS roles and responsibilities
- Strengthen coordination between schools, law enforcement, fire, EMS, and emergency management
- Identify gaps in existing reunification plans before they are needed in an actual emergency
What to Expect
Participants will engage in hands-on, scenario-based learning that walks through the full reunification process—from decision-making and site setup to family verification, student release, and documentation. The training emphasizes practical tools, clear communication, and trauma-informed approaches for students, families, and staff.
Whether your district already has a reunification plan or is still developing one, this bootcamp offers valuable insight and practice you can take back to your organization.
Who Should Attend
- K–12 educators and administrators
- School safety and crisis response teams
- Law enforcement officers / SROs
- Emergency managers and community response partners
Reunification works best when everyone practices together.
A Safer Path Forward
We hope participants leave this training feeling more confident, more connected, and better prepared to support students and families when it matters most. Practicing reunification before implementing it is one of the most important steps schools can take to strengthen their emergency preparedness.
Join us this Friday and take part in building safer, more coordinated school communities.
