School safety is more than a plan—it’s the ability to act with clarity, coordination, and confidence when it matters most.
You are invited to attend the 2026 NWESD School Safety & Wellness Symposium, a regional professional learning experience dedicated to strengthening school safety, connection, and coordinated response efforts. This year, we are intentionally shifting our focus to the “how” of school safety—moving beyond discussion and into practical application.
For many teams, translating emergency plans into real-world action can feel complex or overwhelming.
This symposium is designed to simplify that process.
Join Us: August 17–18, 2026
Two full days of interactive, hands-on training focused on operationalizing emergency and crisis response efforts in K–12 schools.
Hosted by the NWESD 189 School Safety & Wellness Center, this experience brings together school leaders, safety teams, and community emergency partners to build shared strategies and practical skills that support safe, supportive, and resilient school environments.
What to Expect
Participants will engage in Circle of Trust training, a hands-on approach that moves school safety from concept to actionable reality. This training emphasizes:
- Clear roles and shared responsibility
- Coordinated, real-time decision-making
- Strong communication during high-stress situations
Through scenario-based learning, participants will:
- Practice real-world emergency response strategies
- Strengthen alignment between school teams and first responders
- Build confidence in navigating complex crisis situations
This experience is designed to demystify emergency procedures, connect existing safety efforts, and equip teams with adaptable tools they can immediately apply in their schools.

Who Should Attend
This event is ideal for anyone who plays a role in building and sustaining a culture of safety in schools—especially those involved in your district’s Incident Command System.
We strongly encourage teams to attend together, including:
- Superintendents
- Safety and operations leaders
- Transportation directors
- School security personnel
- School counselors and intervention specialists
- School nurses
Strengthening Community Partnerships
To support meaningful, real-world coordination, the SSWC will extend invitations – on behalf of participating districts – to local and regional emergency response partners, including law enforcement, 911 dispatch, EMS, Fire Departments, Departments of Emergency Management, and the Red Cross.
These partners are invited, at no cost, to join a dedicated half-day session focused on interagency collaboration. During this time, school teams and emergency responders will work side-by-side through realistic scenarios – building the relationships, trust, and coordination essential during an actual crisis.
