Join us for the 2nd event in the School Safety and Wellness Center’s (SSWC) series on understanding neurodivergence, atypical behaviors, and the intersection of school-based safety.

Event: The 13 Millisecond Problem; Neurodivergent Brain-Based Reasons for Challenging Behaviors & Tips to Address It to Increase School Safety

When: Friday, May 16 2025 | 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM PST

Where: NWESD, Anacortes

The first part of this course is led by licensed mental health therapist and educator, Hannah Smith. Ms. Smith is a licensed trauma therapist, certified interpersonal neurobiologist, and holds a degree in special education. This part dives into the two paths to reactivity in the brain (frustration/anger/anxiety). Attendees will learn how to quickly assess the type of threat and learn methods to more effectively address it that are geared toward supporting neurodivergent students.

The second part of the course is led by the NWESD Safety Center staff. It explores the symptoms and behaviors associated with ADHD. These include impulsivity, low frustration tolerance, and rigid thinking. Additionally, the training addresses how to differentiate between ADHD-related behavior and signs of more serious issues, such as potential threat or violent behavior.

This event is free to attend, and space is limited. Please let us know by Monday, May 12 if you register but are unable to join us.
