Sexual violence prevention in schools isn’t just about policies – it’s about everyday practices that shape culture, safety, and belonging. Educators and school staff are often the first to notice when something feels “off,” yet many of us haven’t been given concrete, realistic tools to prevent harm before it happens or to respond when students need support.
That’s why we’re partnering with Skagit DVSAS to bring a free training on supporting students and preventing sexual violence in schools—designed specifically for K–12 educators, school leaders, counselors, and support staff. This session focuses on practical strategies you can use in your school settings.
What You’ll Learn
This training is grounded in prevention science and trauma-informed practices, with a strong focus on what schools can do every day to reduce harm and strengthen safety:
- Introduction to DVSAS, Sexual Violence (SV) & STOP SV
Get a clear overview of sexual violence prevention frameworks and how they apply in school communities.
- Social Norms
Learn how unspoken norms and adult modeling shape student behavior—and how shifting norms can reduce harm and increase reporting.
- Teach Skills
Explore age-appropriate skills schools can teach to support healthy boundaries, consent, bystander intervention, and help-seeking.
- Opportunities to Empower
Identify ways to increase student voice, agency, and protective peer culture across classrooms and activities.
- Protective Environments
Examine how school environments, routines, supervision, and systems can reduce risk and increase safety.
- Support Victims
Build confidence in how to respond when a student discloses harm, including how to support without causing further trauma.
- Questions & Discussion
Bring your questions and challenges. This is a space for practical problem-solving with colleagues.
Why This Training Matters
Prevention isn’t one lesson or one assembly—it’s a culture shift. Schools that intentionally build protective environments and teach healthy relationship skills see stronger trust, safer climates, and more students getting help earlier. This training supports educators in moving from awareness to actionable prevention—without adding unrealistic expectations to already full plates.
