Every school has a safety plan. The more important question is whether your team can effectively implement it when an emergency occurs.

To help schools strengthen operational readiness, NWESD 189 is hosting the 2026 School Safety Symposium: Circle of Trust – Operationalizing School Safety on August 17–18, 2026, at the Mount Vernon Library Commons. This two-day event brings together school leaders, safety managers, emergency responders, and community partners to focus on practical strategies for moving school safety plans from paper to practice.

A featured session will explore one of the most challenging aspects of emergency response: student-parent reunification. Participants will learn how modern reunification systems can improve communication, accountability, efficiency, and family experiences during a crisis while supporting established Incident Command System (ICS) practices.

Attendees will also receive two valuable resources:

  • A new RCW 28A.320.125 Compliance Crosswalk and Gap Analysis Tool to support comprehensive safe school planning and annual reviews.
  • An updated fillable Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) template aligned with current state and federal guidance.

The symposium will feature keynote speakers Carly Posey and Reichen Posey, who will share powerful perspectives on school safety, resilience, and the importance of preparedness.

As districts prepare for the 2026–27 school year, this event offers a timely opportunity to strengthen plans, partnerships, and response capabilities. Participants will leave with practical tools, actionable strategies, and connections that support safer schools and stronger communities.

Registration is now open, and space is limited. School teams are encouraged to register now.
