The safety and well-being of students is a shared priority across our region, and on Thursday, June 26, Mount Vernon School District demonstrated its strong commitment to that goal by conducting a modified Reunification Drill.
Reunification is the critical process of safely reuniting students with their families following a significant school emergency or crisis. While we all hope such events never occur, being prepared can make all the difference in ensuring students, staff, community partners, and families are supported and cared for in times of uncertainty.
Thursday’s drill brought together district staff, law enforcement, emergency management partners, and volunteers to practice a realistic reunification scenario. From communication procedures to site logistics and student release protocols, every step was carefully coordinated and tested.
These drills require extensive planning, collaboration, and community participation. The success of Mount Vernon’s exercise reflects the dedication of district leaders, school staff, first responders, and emergency managers who all worked together to ensure the process runs smoothly in the event of a real emergency. Special recognition is due to Dan Berard, Officer Chris Carlson, and Bill Nutting for their dedication and hard work. Special thanks to Mount Vernon High School for being gracious hosts and partners.
Congratulations to Mount Vernon School District for leading by example and investing the time and effort to strengthen their emergency preparedness. Your proactive approach helps build trust, confidence, and peace of mind for students, staff, and communities.
Thank you for your commitment to school safety!
